MADISON (WKOW) — All month long, a group of Madison restaurants are teaming up to support local food pantries.

27 News sat down with the director of Madison Originals, as well as the executive director of one of the benefitting food pantries, to talk about how important the Mad Can Food Drive is for the community.

Madison restaurants join forces this February to support local food pantries

Madison Originals Director Sarah Niehaus said they came up with the idea at the end of last year.

“What we decided to do was host a month-long food drive during the month of February when, not only were there less people milling around [and] going out to restaurants, but maybe not donating as much as they would have otherwise during the rest of the year,” she said.

The donations will go to four food pantries: Badger Prairie Needs Network, Middleton Outreach Ministry, The River Food Pantry and Sunshine Place. Collection barrels will be at each participating restaurant.
